“Recorded in two days, Austrian born Leeb’s Upside Down is an exciting collection of skilfully played instrumentals very much in the vein of the much-missed Eric Roche. Leeb cites Roche as a major influence and it’s not difficult to see why. Every last fiibre of his guitar is wrung dry to produce either rhythm bass, chords or melody and very inspiring it is too. In conversation with Leeb he commented that he recorded this album standing up (rather than the usual seated position), and in doing so, ran the risk of a patchy recording. I asked him “Why take the risk?” He replied, “Because it was more important to me to capture the joy and spirit of a live performance than concentrating on not moving from the microphone.” This he has done admirably.
